The New Zealand Agricultural and Marketing Research and Development Trust (AGMARDT) has approved a grant to support O&P in developing its New Zealand Bio Active Lipids portfolio.
AGMARDT strategically invests in emerging leaders in New Zealand’s primary sector, and with over $90 Million invested, AGMARDT is shaping the future of New Zealand’s primary sector.
Oils and Powders NZ Limited specialises in the commercialisation of Bio Active Lipids through the extraction and conversion of plants lipids as functional oils and powders.
Operating in New Zealand and offshore, engaging with indigenous landowners as upstream actors by strengthening farm gate economics through a sustainable, value-added, circular economy approach, O&P delivers positive SDG outcomes in multiple global theatres.
O&P’s R&D focus is high-value concept-to-consumer outcomes from plant derived bio active lipids, within a dual-hemisphere (north/south) blended ethnobotany, ecopharmacognosy and ethnopharmacognosy halo.
This particular NZ Bio-Natives project will access cutting edge low-temperature spray drying technology to convert Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) Essential Oil to a functional Manuka Essential Oil Powder, preserving the unique (API’s) active pharmaceutical ingredients and their (MOA) mechanism of action to develop new high value ingredient derivatives from this important emerging native plant resource.
The project also seeks to engage with key Manuka landowners to open discussion on innovation thresholds and opportunity via advocacy for development of elite genetics as core to developing API potential, and establishment of a relevant forum for engagement with Tangata Whenua, as indigenous Manuka stakeholders for consideration of the economic value, land use resource breadth and product depth for this Taonga species genome.
