COCONUT MCT’s AND KETOGENICS

Coconut contains a special type of fats: MCTs (medium chain triglycerides). When you consume them, they are not preferentially stored in your body the same way as most other fats we consume.

MCTs don’t need the enzyme lipase, bile or the amino acid L-Carnitine to be utilised, and are absorbed quickly and used as fuel (in the form of ketones).

Ketosis is a state where your body burns fat instead of glucose for fuel. A keto diet incudes low daily carbohydrate limiting the body’s access to glucose. The liver converts fatty acids into ketones. Ketosis also occurs in the body after sustained intense exercise or lengthy periods of fasting. Ketones are alternative energy molecules that fuel our cells.
